Not much of a story really. The short version is they reinserted a previously deleted ca without notice to me. I requested proof of their "certification" from the ca that is required and they couldn't provide it. 2 other ca's were reinserted. The screwy part of all this is that these accts belonged to someone with the same name in the same city. It wasn't til later their atty and I figured out by the guys wifes name, that it was his accts. I knew they weren't mine.
i recieved a settlement offer in the mail from northland group last week for a settlement of $845 on an account they say is $2400. the catch was they were representing sherman aqt. they list the account on the settlement leter as an HFN-associates college account... one that i have never heard of. has anyone else had expeience with this collection agency or any for that matter stating the account as soemthing it's not to get a response? the only collections i have had with sherman are an MBNA account for $1200. if it is valid is it legal for them to double my balance? i would write northland and ask them to validate, but i have moved to a state with a longer SOL. they are also lisenced and bounded to collect in my state. i have 1 more year SOL. however they are still sending their letters to my mom's house where my SOL is up. they don't have my new address. basically i want to know if i should just go ahead and make them validate or try and coast through my SOL before i send them a DV... does anyone know if any of these companies northland, sherman, or MBNA sue?
I am eightteen and don't have any loans, credit cards, etc. so I'm pretty sure I don't even have one established. Or would they somehow get my information from somewhere to establish it?
